Yin / Yang and anatomy
As for the anatomical description and classification, the Chinese Culture has a broad nomenclature that describes the various parts, points, regions, organs and systems of the body where the principles of Yin - Yang are applied, differentiating both forms and functions, for example:
The Chi circulates through the meridians at a rate established by the transformation of the Yin into Yang successively.
* Yin: right side; Anterior part (ventral); Palmar part; Inside the body; lower members; trunk; Full (solid); Organs / meridians zang: liver, heart, kidney, lung, spleen-pancreas, pericardium.
* Yang: left side; Back (dorsal); Part fly; Exterior; upper limbs; head; Hollow, empty (light); Organs / meridians fu: small intestine, i. Thick, stomach, bladder, gallbladder, triple heater (san jiao), brain, uterus.
Thus, this classification extends to both normal and pathological organs and physiological processes, including a series of signs and symptoms that are used in the diagnostic process of Chinese medicine as will be seen next. However, it is always good to remember that each of the functions or organs here divided into Yin and Yang groups can be further subdivided into successive classifications.
For example, some organs such as the heart and kidney possess Yang characteristics (Shao - young Yin) whereas the lung and spleen-pancreas characteristics Yin (Tai - great Yin) although all in their constitution are classified as Zang (organs) of nature Yin. Analyzing the heart one can still differentiate the cardiac yin (the systole - the muscle mass) from the cardiac Yang (the diastole, the cavities) and so on.
Here is a brief synthesis of the application of these concepts to the set of signs and symptoms usually identified in medical semiology.
Yin: chronic processes; Tendency to obesity; congestion; passive; hypothermia; Decreased muscle tone; flaccidity; Decreased sensitivity; Moist, cold skin; somnolence; Muted voice; pessimism; Look off; Broken appearance; Shyness; depression; inhibition; distension; contraction; Static balance; Coma, stupor.
Yang: acute processes; Tendency to weight loss; inflammation; fever; Increased muscle tone; spasm; Increased sensitivity; Dry, hot skin; insomnia; Vibrant voice; optimism; Bright look; Arrogant appearance; Clearance; anxiety; excitement; voltage; dilation; Change of movement; Convulsion.
