1. The members

The examination of the limbs is identical to that of Western medicine. It aims to highlight vascular, muscular, and bone involvement, more specifically a state of contraction and spasm. The test allows to correlate these signs with a Cold or Heat impairment.

Like this,

- Members contracted and can not be folded or extended: signs of cold stagnation in King Mo (main meridians).

2. The nails

The examination of nails has a value of diagnostic orientation:

- Nails with a bright red tendency in thin individuals: sign of emptiness of the Inn with presence of the Fire.

- pale and opaque nails: emptiness of the Lung and Stomach caused by Cold.

- white nails: empty of blood.

- blackened green nails: death sign.

3. Examination of the indicator on children

It is an essential step in any pediatric examination.

The 3 phalanges of the indicator are called the "3 barriers" (Sanquan):

- the third phalanx is the barrier of the Wind (Fengquan)

- the second phalanx is the energy barrier (Qiquan)

- the first phalanx is the barrier of Life (Menquan)

The examination should be done in the light. With one hand, we take the child's index finger and with the help of the thumb of the other hand that was previously dipped in cold water, we rub this indicator from the "life barrier" to the "wind barrier", therefore from the base to the end Of the finger. We then observe the coloration in these 3 levels:

- uncertain coloration between red and yellow: a sign of good health.

- violet coloration: Heat illness.

- red coloration: evolutionary cold disease.

- yellow coloration: evolutionary disease of Humidity.

- black coloration: disease caused by energy called "curious" or "toxic endemic."

- green coloration; Convulsive disease due to wind.

- white color: scurvy.

- white color with pale lips: disease due to blood void.

In the latter case, the complexion is always pale whatever the season:

- pale red: cold induced void

- pale green: Wind induced void

Pale violaceous: Heat-induced void.

It is the expression of a fragile terrain linked to the energy insufficiency of the Zhong Jiao (AM). Consisting of small, slightly protruding red spots, the size of sesame grains, beginning on the face and preceded by a phlegm of the oculo-nasal and pharyngolaryngeal mucosa with pharyngeal enanthemum and especially of the inner cheek (Koplick's sign).

The examination of the indicator may provide other data having a diagnostic orientation value. Like this :

- coloring appearing to surface: external disease.

Examination of the indicator may also have prognostic and diagnostic value. It is based on the appearance of linear traits at the level of barriers:

- linear traces in the Wind barrier: benign disease.

- linear traces in the energy barrier: serious illness.

- linear traits in the barrier of Life: a difficult disease to treat.

- Straight lines: Heat illness.

- Curved lines: Cold disease.

- numerous traits: fast pulse.

- rare traits: slow pulse.

- linear traits seeming to surface externalization: sign of superficial infiltration of perverse energy.

- linear traits appearing on the path of "internalization": location of perverse energy in the meridian Yang Ming (E)

- linear traits seeming to internalize very deeply: location of perverse energy in Viscera Yang Ming (Stomach).
